On Monday 23 September 2024, The Honourable Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam, Dato Seri Paduka Steven Chong welcomed the Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (Hong Kong SAR), His Excellency Mr. Paul Lam, SC who is on his first working visit to Brunei Darussalam.
The Secretary for Justice’s visit to Brunei Darussalam marks a significant milestone following the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam and the Hong Kong Department of Justice (DoJ) in May 2023 in Hong Kong. The MOC aims to strengthen ties and enhance cooperation between the two jurisdictions in matters of dispute avoidance and resolution.
The Chief Justice and the Secretary for Justice expressed their shared commitment to materialise the MOC and exchanged views on further opportunities for cooperation in facilitating the development of dispute avoidance and resolution services in Brunei Darussalam and Hong Kong SAR. The signing of the MOC and reciprocal visit by the Secretary of Justice and his delegation are a testament to the long history and warm friendship between Brunei Darussalam and Hong Kong SAR and reinforces the cordial economic, trade and people-to-people ties between Brunei Darussalam and Hong Kong SAR.
