Chief Justice Dato Seri Paduka Steven Chong attended the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) and Global Forum on International Mediation held in Hong Kong SAR on 30 May 2025.
The Chief Justice witnessed the signing of the IOMed Convention in a ceremony presided over by China Foreign Minister His Excellency Wang Yi. The IOMed Convention establishes the world’s first inter-governmental international legal organization dedicated to resolving international disputes through mediation.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from several countries, including Indonesia, Pakistan, Laos, Cambodia and Serbia. Representatives from 20 international bodies, including the United Nations, also attended the ceremony.
The Global Forum on International Mediation covered topics including ‘State to State Mediation’ and ‘International Investment and International Commercial Dispute Mediation.’
The Chief Justice also held a meeting with Her Excellency Judge Hu Fang, Deputy Chief Judge of the Fourth Civil Division of the Supreme People’s Court of China on the sidelines of the IOMed Convention Signing Ceremony and Global Forum on International Mediation.

Also in attendance was the Acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hajah Hazarena binti POKSJ DP Haji Hurairah, together with another senior judicial officer from the Supreme Court.
