The Judiciary of Brunei Darussalam together with the Singapore Judicial College (SJC) have jointly organized the Judgment Writing Programme. Present as the Guest of Honor for the opening ceremony was the Honorable Chief Justice Dato Paduka Steven Chong.
The morning's event was started off with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Accounts Officer, Ahmad Haziq bin Haji Othman. The chairperson of the organizing committee of the Judgment Writing Programme, Pg Masni binti Pg Hj Bahar, Acting Chief Magistrate marked the start of the 3 day programme by delivering a welcoming speech. In her remarks, the chairperson hopes to enhance the enduring friendship between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore as both countries share a common legal system. Indeed, Judges and Judicial Officers will strive to write fair, clear and effective judgments. She added they are after all means of achieving and objective that is universal that is being the resolution of conflict. Through this programme the Judiciary hope to better realise and implement its goals which are to secure and administer justice; as well as to preserve public trust and confidence.
Dean Foo Chee Hock of the SJC also delivered brief remarks on the programme. He stated that the first customized Judgment Writing Programme for Brunei Darussalam will entail reflecting, sharing and discussing Judgment Writing in greater detail. Dean Foo also added that good written judgments have no shortcuts or standard formulas - one needs to commit sufficient time and energy
Participants consisted of the Justices of the Supreme Court and Syariah Court, the Solicitor General of the Attorney General's Chambers, Senior Officers and Officers from the Judiciary, Syariah Court and the Attorney General's Chambers.
